Fall events at the IKS

The fall season has arrived, and we are kicking it off (no pun intended) with many fun and exciting events. The IKS has long established itself as a hallmark community organization, using the strength of its members to support the communities that sustain them. We continue to be active in volunteering efforts thanks to the help of our amazing students and families who not only donate their time to help us year after year, but also demonstrate the character of true martial artists. This year, our events are spread over a few dates:
Saturday September 15th
The Humane Society for Greater Nashuawill be hosting their annual Wags to Whiskers festival at the Anheuser-Busch field in Merrimack. For over 100 years, the Shelter has been caring for Nashua’s runaway, stray and abandoned animals, and using its resources to find loving homes for all of them. We can make a very positive impact to help them with these goals. From approximately 2:30 – 6:00pm, we will be helping them break down the event, clean up the field, and unload all of their cargo back at the shelter (24 Ferry Road - Nashua). You are welcome to come by and enjoy the festivities before this time (the overall event starts at 11am). For many reasons, not least of which is getting a chance to visit with all the shelter’s animals, our assistance has always been a positive experience for all.
Saturday October 27th
This year will be our Fourteenth straight year helping out the Leukemia and Lymphoma Societywith their annual Light the Night walk at Greeley Parkin Nashua. LLS helps victims of blood cancer by funding research for cures, and improving the quality of life for patients and their families. In the 13 years that we have been helping them, they have made remarkable progress towards eradicating these illnesses, and a very large percentage of their fundraising goes directly towards their primary mission. The organizers will need our assistance from approximately 3:30 – 8:30pm, as we help with allaspects of this event including money counting, registration, distributing T-Shirts and, of course, preparing and handing out lanterns to illuminate the walk route through downtown Nashua.
Saturday November 3rd (TWO EVENTS, ONE PLACE)
On this day, the IKS will be staging a special Fall Tournament in the Collignon Gymnasium at Bishop Guertin High School. This competition will be focused on our Advanced competitors, allowing many of our younger students to witness their instructors and mentors in action. Further details will be announced soon.
At the same time, Nicholas Guidice (owner of Nutrifit Consulting, which operates out of our Lake Street facility) will be staging a Regional Powerlifting Competition (sanctioned by USA Powerlifting) in the Roedel Field House, also at Bishop Guertin. Powerlifting is a barbell sport in which athletes compete in three individual events: the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Simply put, competitors that lift the most combined weight across the 3 disciplines will win. Spectators for the IKS Tournament are welcome to watch both events, at no extra cost.
We encourage you to participate in these events (and spread the word to your family & friends too) and help foster goodwill in our community. If you would like to volunteer for the Humane Society or Light the Night, PLEASE let us know. Shihan Maistrosky will be coordinating our participation in these events, and accurate head counts really help.
Thank you (always) for your support
